  2. Awesome colours and fighting hands make for a good game : P. I think there's a lot of potential in the WiiGlove thing, if it ends up working. I also thought it was good you guys looked at past technology as inspiration and forewarning.

  3. a good presentation with a nice website aswell.
i think the wii gesture glove is a really good idea and the way you described how it works i thought was really well done also the animations were a very nice touch to demonstrate the games and the glove in action it is clear you put alot of effort into to this...but i would like to say that although the game and glove are very very good they just seem to be improvements on existing techniology and game so you miss out on the originality also it seems that because the gesture glove only creates gestures that will limit the use of it outside the world of extreme paper scissors rock. maybe work on ways to improve the way the glove could interact with new or existing games. otherwise i think the multiplayer aspect is good aswell as adding all the other combos you can have in the game...so

    yeah D for distinction

  4. Nice idea, a lot of effort clearly went into this presentation.

It did seem more like you designed a peripheral and then designed a game around that. I felt more effort could have gone into the design of the game, rather than the glove. Still, great idea on the glove - you went into a great deal of detail, it was clearly well thought about.

As it stands now, the game doesn't really encourage performance from the players - it's hard to think of how this could be implemented though, with such small gestures.

It's social insofar as you can only play it with another player, but it's difficult to see how you could get very emotionally invested in the game.

The good thing about using such small gestures, which are then mimicked on the screen, is that you minimise the mind-body conflict. However this also means that you've minimised the positive aspects of activating the mind-body loop.

  5. Thanks Lisa,
I dont think the presentation made clear how the game is played. The idea is that the game is quite rapid despite the demonstration being quite slow moving. Also another thing i forgot to cover was the calibration options of the glove and relevant gestures.
But you are rgiht, the game was designed around the glove and it is a good point that you made about the emotional investment in the game because i hadnt even thought of that until you pointed it out.

  6. I wanna congratulate you guys on your idea. I liked the way you guys took a more modern approach to an old classic. ALthough i think yous might have put too much emphasis on the product (being the glove) rather than the game idea. It just doesnt seem to require that much exersion.
I hope i dont seem harsh but im gona be honest and give yous a Credit

  7. Well i'm going to start of by saying that I agree that this game isn't a very physically tiring and exerting game for as far as exertion games go. However, neither was our game. Someone has to cater for the community who can't get up and jump around (the wheelchair bound and morbidly obese). And besides, this leaves it open for the people who can run around and jump to add in their own performance qualities into playing the game.

I can see that you put quite a bit of effort into this project and did well to justify why your Gesture Glove is better than the Power Glove.

Extra marks for the different game modes.
And although the idea isn't completely original, i enjoy playing an old classic under new circumstances or with modified or adapted rules so bonus marks for that :)

The concept of Wii Rock Paper Scissors doesn't really appeal to me personally, but the idea is certainly there. Concentration on the gesture glove was probably important to ephasise the gameplay style that your idea would have if it were made.

    Distinction (70-75)

  9. Good use of the glove and the many permutations of the human hand. Definitely increases the fun factor for all players although the movement of fingers in general shouldn't be counted as truly exhausting, as far as physical exertion goes.

    Distinction. Well done.

  10. My mark: CR
I don’t see much of a motivation to go and buy all this glove hardware and to have to bother using it just to have this virtual game layer added onto games such as rock-paper-scissors, In my opinion rock-paper-scissors is not really fun (it’s usually used to solve disputes or arguments) and having the addition of all this technology looks like it could make it a bit more interesting but not by much.

  11. CR

I think designing a peripheral and then a game around that wasnt the smartest way to design because in the end you limited yourself. That being said, you showed that with the limits of technology you were able to come up with a fun looking game for the hardware.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Physical Exertion
A physical game, wouldn't really bring a sweat but still sufficient.

    Mind Body conflict
Well balanced, particularly with the extreme version where there are many options to consider.

    Mind Body Loop
Good use & take on equipment already available which satisfies the mind.

    Emotion
I can see how the emotion of fun was considered as with most of the games and competing with another player could be fun, particularly trying to compete and "mess" with them.

    Social
Defintely a social game which could be quite fun with some friends, drinks and a lot of laughs. More gloves, more players I assume?

    Perfomance
This has been described well in your presentation & on your website. Easy to play but possibly also easy to tire of. The EXTREME version does add more of an "interest factor" however.

    Originality
Not very original, and also, why bother buying the glove when you can play an extreme version without one. Admittedly you can't "bash" the opponents points down though...

    Style
Nice use of colour and some good visual aids.

    Presentation
Spoken & put together well with some nice visual aids. Sweet.

    Website
A bit too much about the power glove maybe??? Were you worried about copyright? Format was okay, not great but it was still quite informative in it's description.

  13. Comparing it to an existing product was a good move because you can work out what went wrong with their designs an improve your own. I love the game paper scissors rock and being able to play this virtually could be very fun. Since you have developed "extreme" and "extreme 15" this will allow more variety to the game creating more intense battles within the players. Overall i give you a High Distinction

  17. As a lot of people have already said, the emphasis is on the glove rather than the game. Apart from the snazzy visuals there seems to be little incentive to play this rather than actual rock-paper-scissors. That being said the glove is rather good.
Perhaps you could use the glove in a fighting style game? Like a Dragon Ball Z game, using the glove to fire energy attacks.

You have imagined a very interesting peripheral, it would be cool to see something like this actually happen perhaps in the next generation of consoles. Even if it is based off the power glove. Your game does seem a little bland however. Rock paper scissors is not very entertaining for extended periods of time. And the extended chart would seems quite confusing for beginners, I know its for advanced players, but accessibility is a big issue for games, and some of the gestures are very similar. Your pitch was very nicely presented and the animation was well done. Your website is interesting, but the flashing animation is a bit distracting, maybe change it to a static image, you want people to read your information, not get a seizure.

    Overall, very nice. Credit.

  21. Not a truly original concept, but the enhancements that you guys made, take it to the extreme. It has the potential to be a very competitive game, but the novelty of continually playing Scissors, Paper, Rock may wear off pretty quickly.

I have some beef, and i have some praise.
    I'll start with the beef.

Basically the game is not very original, nor very exterting. Rock paper scissors can get very tedious, even with a tasty revamping.

Aight, now on with the praise.

The glove. The glove is awesome. The Power Glove was fail, the Gesture glove seems f***** awesome. I think this peripheral could be used for a great many games, rather than rock paper scissors, although is see what you were trying to do. I would play rock paper scissors on it, but i just think that you guys can think of something better.

Good presentation and website. The game itself is just another one that complicates a simple thing that could easily be done in a purely physical way and adds a CPU to it. The concept of the glove is unoriginal and is not going to add much to such a basic game. I've played Rock Paper Scissors with friends over the intenet - it gets boring quick and i didn't even have to pay for a glove. Despite being well presented it really doesn't have anything new.

  24. I entirely agree with Tim,

By just reading your description the gesture glove was hard to understand, but after seeing your flash it made sense. The game is simple but well executed; the inclusion of RPS-15, etc was definitely a good idea to improve the longevity.

After doing a bit of research about infrared, I think it’s suitable for your game but prolonged exposure to it can have health risks. I’m sure if you put a warning on the box you guys would have no troubles.

The game is not overly exciting, why would I want to purchase the glove and the game, when I could probably get as much enjoyment from playing it without? I think an answer to that question would have been nice in your presentation.

Future uses of the glove would have been a nice thing for you guys to explore as well.

  27. ok just a side note,
to anyone saying the game is unoriginal,
youre absoloutely right, i completely stole the idea from smash brothers.
to anyone saying its exactly the same as paper scissors rock, well, its not really, the first game is, but the extreme versions are like smash brothers, with hands that you control by swinging you arm and abilities that you execute by making gestures.
i know that wasnt made completely clear in the presentation but thats the point :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. I can see quite an effort put into this work. Saw how you photoshopped all the hand gesture. Unfortunately, did not quite seem to have any exertion at all. I can go making gestures all day and I would not break a sweat. Also, much like everyone else thinks, rock, paper, scissors is not a game that have a very good lifespan, only time I use it is to settle the matter of "Who goes first" no matter how "extreme" it is I would not play it very often.

    Sorry :(

Wii Sports doesn't look that great on paper, but it too was designed around an original control scheme.

  31. This is great. You've taken what is traditionally a very sedentary game and applied motivation for more physical involvement. I also think you put a lot of effort into your presentation.

Only downside is that casual players would probably want to get out of a glove as soon as possible. Maybe you could utilize some sort of camera system like the one Microsoft just announced.

    Overall an excellent idea.

    8/10 = HD

  32. I see this game as a digital referee for Rock Paper Scissors.

    Physical Exertion
Not overly physically exerting, but surely better than the standard console controllers of yesteryear. But with wiimotes, balance boards, eye toys and the like, the opportunity to design more physically exerting games exists. The beating up of the other player does add a bit of physical exertion in there though.

    Mind Body conflict
The standard rock paper scissors game does not provide too much of a mind body conflict. Adding the extreme mode, adds a good strategic element. RPS 15 adds a lot of complexity, and may be too confusing for new players, until they learn the system.

    Social
A great social game, adding real world actions, that can determine the strength of your avatar. Adding a non-parallel aspect to a traditionally parallel game works well. This game has great social aspects.

    Emotion
The emotional investment in this game ties in greatly with the social aspect. Playing against a computer would offer limited emotional investment.

    Perfomance
This game has no real discernable performance aspects to it. Maybe a power mode like pulling a ‘Power Rangers’ pose could add extra attack bonuses.

    Originality
A very unique take on making a physical game. Using an existing game and adding it to a digital environment isn’t entirely original. But adding the damage and battle system is a very creative addition.

    Style
I like the floating gloves, very Disney/Warner Bros. And seeing as style and taste is subjective, you get bonus points for that. I would liked to have seen a mockup of what it would look like in 3D though.

    Presentation
The presentation was very good, straight forward, and managed to get all the points across. Use of visuals to reinforce the message was great. Great flash animation.

    Website
The website conveyed enough information to allow the reader to understand the game. Having the flash interactive and links to David Lovelace’s site were great.

  34. A very nice expansion of the power glove idea! a glove that utilizes the gestures people use is very smart, as gestures are among the simplest forms of human expression & therefore would be very easy to pick up. Not too pleased with the initial reuse of the rock, paper & scissors game but the extreme & the 15 modes take something old & gives it new life!I can imagine your glove being use in allot of different various in future games. My only complaint is the lack of using the middle finger!

If you wanted to play an extreme rock, paper, scissor game - try the japanese version; at least someone can get hurt in that game

    I give it a CR

  37. This game was good but there really is not a great deal of exertion. The idea wasn't all that original either, and I hate to say it but other adaptations exist ^^. And like Bao Di stated above, buying a WiiGlove to play RPS isn't really a good idea, unless you played it online with people on the other side of the globe. But then again, RPS is only one example.

The glove idea wasn't too original but that doesn't really matter if you could come up with nice original games =p

  40. Hey guys,
I want to say that I thought this idea was reeeeally awesome when you first presented it to the class.
The game ideas you could have made with this are endless.
Being controller of your own world and such like that..
But the fact you just went with paper scissors rock (and extreme paper scissors rock) was a bit of a let down for me.

I think if you worked on a more original concept for the game i would have given you a higher mark.
    And made it more exerting.

However in saying this the different hang gestures were pretty cool. the gun one caught my eye the most haha

Overall everything wasn’t bad. I understood what was being said, website makes sense, and presentation was well done. The game though I’m not too sure about. Even in real life this game is only played to make quick decisions. I think its lacking on the actual visual game aspect. If you could have made the game more visual appealing and stimulating and mentally challenging then it would have been gr8.

The idea of how the glove works thought is good and I can see a few other uses for it that might be fun.

  47. Echoing everyone else's sentiments that you did v. well on the peripheral development (Y). I also like how you have taken a simple, ubiquitous game and taken it further with the use of technology - pretty innovative thinking. However, the issue lies primarily in practice - was it necessary to enhance such a game, or does it just over-complicate things? Necessary or not, an interesting idea all the same. Also not much physical exertion involved, and could also be very short-lived in a social context. Mind/body conflict was definitely addressed, and animations/website were excellent. I give you a D.
